BBS: Dealing with Problems
Has a friend ever shared a problem with you? Did you feel that the problem was too big for you to handle? Or lets get more personal! Have you ever had a problem that you felt was too big to handle? What did you do about it? When we are faced with problems in life, we often feel like they are too big to be solved. In this study, we will learn how to deal with problems.

Question One
There was a young girl who lived about three-thousand years ago–we’ll call her Aiesha. She was a member of God’s people called the Israelites. One day, an army from Syria had a war with the Israelites and stole Aiesha from her parents. When they took her back to Syria, they gave her to a solder called Naaman to be a slave for his wife. Aiesha must have been scared and lonely, but she never forgot her God. Read the story about Aiesha and Naaman in 2 Kings 5:1-4, and write about how Aiesha was able to share her faith.
note: Aiesha knew that she did not have the ability to cure Namaan. However, this did not mean that she could not help. You may not be able to solve the problem, but you can help by finding someone who can.

Question Two
Sometimes when you give people advice, they may not follow all the directions. Aiesha told Naaman that he should go and see the prophet Elisha, but Naaman went to the king of Israel instead. The king of Israel at this time was a man named Joram. Joram was a wicked king who did not know the Lord. Read about Naaman’s meeting with King Joram in 2 Kings 5:5-7. Why wasn’t the king able to help Naaman? Is it wise to take advice from people who don’t love God?
note: As Christians, we must be very careful about the type of people who give us advice. There are many people who don’t know God and will tell us to do things that go against God’s word. Unfortunately, many of these people are on television shows and write the words for the music that so many people enjoy.

Question Three
The evil King Joram could not help Naaman with his problem, but God had someone who could. It was his faithful prophet Elisha. Read 2 Kings 5:8-14. What advice did Elisha give Naaman? What was Naaman’s reaction? Is it always easy for a person to accept the solution to a problem? Naaman’s servants encouraged him to do what Elisha said. What kind of friends do you need when you are going through problems?
note: When wise people give us advice, it may not always be what we want to hear. But lets get real: if a person has a problem with weight, the only solution may be to cut out cakes and candies–no matter how difficult it may seem!

Question Four
Although Naaman did not feel like it, he did what Elisha advised. It’s not always easy to follow advice. However, there are some problems that can only be solved if we follow the advice of wise men and women of God. Read 2 Kings 5:15-18. Aiesha told Naaman about Elisha, and Elisha told him to bathe himself in the Jordan River, but who is the real problem solver in the story? Do you think there are any problems that God cannot solve? What are you going to do the next time you have a problem, or somebody comes to you with a problem?
I understand that God can solve any problem. I also understand that God has some good people who can help me or my friends when we are going through problems. I promise to trust him in everything.
