DISARMING
SATANIC STRONGHOLDS IN UGANDA
Dr.
Burton's recent mission trip to Uganda was both
eventful and rewarding. He had been invited by
Pastor Godfrey Malonde of Walking with God
Ministries to be the main speaker at a
prayer conference at Masaka, and to assist with
the educational and domestic needs of 87
orphans. He arrived in Entebbe on the eve of
January 22, 2010, and made the journey to
Kamapla where he settled with friendly hosts,
Janet and Hope.
The next day found him at the Kampala Central
Seventh-day Adventist Church where it was Deaf
Ministries Day. The entire service (including
the sermon) was led by the deaf, aided by
competent interpreters. This was a powerful
experience that allowed the hearing to walk in
the shoes of the dead.
On Sunday, Dr. Burton preached at two of four
worship services at Searchlight of God
Evangelistic Ministries, a thriving Pentecostal
congregation under the leadership of Pastor
Israel Mutabangyanya. God was praised and souls
were delivered.
After service, Dr. Burton and another guest from
America, Pastor Lewis Mark Lampley, traveled
with Pastor Malonde to Masaka where the prayer
conference was to be held. The theme of the
conference was Prayer is the Key to
Destroying the Religious Spirit and Disarming
Satanic Strongholds. Dr. Burton was
thoroughly used as he made two to three
presentations each day. Although the struggle
against demonic spirits was evident, the entire
conference was filled with an atmosphere of
praise and worship.
Dr. Burton was especially thrilled about the
opportunity to present a workshop on female
empowerment. Hundreds of woman gathered as
cultural norms were challenged by the Word of
God. In clear terms, Dr. Burton reminded women
that they too were created in God's image and
were equal to men. He also reminded them of
their responsibility to be respectful to their
husbands and fathers, and to respect the body
God had given them. He also cautioned the women
to be tactful in persuading their husbands and
suggested that they invite them to study the
relevant texts together. When he addressed the
entire audience that evening, Dr. Burton had an
opportunity to prep the men for change.
There were also numerous prayer requests that
Dr. Burton felt compelled to fulfill. Some were
for healing, some for exercising, while most
were economic. The needs are immense as millions
still struggle from the effects of colonialism
and decades of civil strife. Nonetheless, the
people's resilience is evident and in spite of
appearances with God's help, they will prevail.
UGANDA--HERE WE COME!
After
two years of seeking the Lord's direction,
Dr. Burton is finally heading back to the
African continent on January 20 - February
2, 2010 where he will minister in Uganda
with
Walk with God Ministries International.
After a weekend of ministry in Kamapla, he
will head to Maska for a six day conference
and revival where he will be the main
speaker for the morning and evening, and
present empowerment workshops to women and
men during the days. A highlight of the trip
will feature ministry at the Triangle of
Hope Orphanage which is in desperate need of
facilities. Pastor Godfrey Mulonde informs me that a
structure can be built for just $10,000
(look for details on a future mission trip
where you can volunteer to assist in the
building project).
In addition to the
funds for the orphanage building, we need to
raise $5,000 for the January trip. These
funds will cover travel expenses, an LCD
projector, books for 200 pastors, and gifts
for the orphans who are currently living in
temporary accommodations. As the Spirit
moves on your heart, please give generously
to this worthy cause. Remember, all
donations are tax deductible. All who
donate over $25 will receive a copy of
Dr. Dexter Thomas' hilarious and uplifting
new book, "Messy Revival."
