Easter
at Sharon
This Easter found Dr. Burton at the Rose of
Sharon Church in the Bronx where he
presented the series, "Change We Can Really
Believe In." The weeks sermons gave
contemporary applications to the daily
events in the final life week of Christ's
life. The titles were: "A Future We Can
Believe In", "Religion We Can Believe In,"
An Economy We Can Believe In," "Worship We
Can Believe In," "A Decision We Can Believe
In," "A Leader We Can Believe In," and "A
Promise We Can Believe In." Pastor Goulding
and the Sharon Church were especially
hospitable, and Dr. Burton's hostess, Sis.
Mathis, spoiled him rotten.
Welcome to this World Jahlon
On April 18, Dr. Burton presided over the
dedicatory rite of passage service for
Jahlon Thomas at the Oakwood University
Church. Assisted by Pastor Dwayne Wilson,
Dr. Burton led out in a litany in which
parents, grandparents, family and
congregation committed to doing their part
to ensure that young Jahlon increases in
"wisdom and stature and in favor with God
and humanity." Please keep his parents,
Jason and Carmen, in your prayers.
Back to Brooklyn
Dr. Burton's wondering if he should get a
second apartment in New York! For the fifth
time in 2009, Dr. Burton was back in New
York where he ministered at the Ebenezer SDA
Church in Brooklyn. On April 25, he made a
passionate appeal to the members of the
church to get involved in witnessing for
Christ. The sermon, "Divided We Stand,"
emphasized the need to manage growth and
empower each member to fulfill the gospel
commission. An afternoon Bible study dealt
with Africa and the Bible, and the final
session for the evening involved the "Pass
the Salt" seminar.
Bradford-Cleveland-Brooks Leadership
Center
The Bradford-Cleveland-Brooks Leadership
Center at Oakwood University is named after
three great African-American Seventh-day
Adventists who have excelled in leadership,
evangelism and media ministry. While
offering services for professional clergy,
the center is especially focused on
providing leadership training to lay members
as it provides tools for volunteers to
conduct their responsibilities with
professionalism. Dr. Burton is one of ten
seminar presenters who has been approved by
the Center to offer webinars and seminars to
a global audience. Please remember to pray
for the leadership of the center as they do
their part in fulfilling the great
commission.

Oakwood University Oratorical
Contest
On March 12, Dr. Burton joined several local
professors and media personalities to judge
the annual Breath of Life oratorical contest
at Oakwood University. Seven students gave
passionate presentations on the theme of
change. The rhetorical victor for the
evening was junior theology student Philip
Kerimah whose eloquence and sincerity wooed
the audience. Bravo to Oakwood University
for keeping alive this ancient art; and to
Breath of Life for providing the $10,000
prize money that is appropriated in
proportionate amounts to all the finalists.
Weekend
Seminar at Linden
March 21-22 found Dr. Burton back in the Big
Apple as he ministered at the Linden Church
in Laurelton, Queens. On the 21st, he
addressed the congregation and their
visitors for Community Guest Day. The Spirit
of the Lord filled the place and many souls
were delivered while others made decisions
for the kingdom. On the 22nd, a "Gideon's
Army" gathered in the conference hall and
participated in the seminar, "Pass the Salt:
The Church as Witnessing Community." This
seminar is on the official roster of
offerings by the Bradford-Cleveland-Brooks

March will feature the message, "Can Obama
Save the World."

Proclaiming Christ in the Age of Obama
Dr. Burton was privileged to conduct a one
day evangelism seminar at the Croydon SDA
Church in London on February 7. The morning
sermon emphasized the need for members to
get more involved in making a difference in
the community. The afternoon workshop was
titled "Pass the Salt" and applied the
various uses of salt to witnessing
strategies. Each participant was empowered
to do his/her part in advancing the
practical message of the kingdom. Pray for
Pastor Kavolah and the ministerial team as
they do great things for the Lord in 2009.
So
Long Uncle Eric
Shortly after funeralizing his
father-in-law, Dr. Burton and his family
were assaulted by the cruel hand of death
once more when his only paternal uncle "gave
up the ghost." Eric Samuel Burton, Sr. was
born in May 1921, and had served as a
conscientious objector in the Royal Air
Force. He was also a founding director of
the Balham and Tooting Sports and Social
Club, and an effective community activist.
The funeral service was held on October 12
at the Brixton SDA Church in London. Dr.
Burton's homily was based on the poem "In
Flanders Fields" by Dr. John McCrae. He used
the poem to give voice to Uncle Eric as he
shared words of hope with the mourners.
Please keep the family in your prayers.
Oakwood University Faculty Forum
On February 12, Dr. Burton joined Dr. Ciro
Sepulveda, chair of the Oakwood University
History Department, as the two addressed
faculty and staff on different ways to
publish books. Dr. Burton shared his
experience with self publishing, academic
publishing, denominational publishing,
editorial publishing and second-tier
publishing. You can see a list of his books
at
www.keithaburton.com.
Black History in the Bay Area
Every year, Dr. Burton takes his Black
history program to the Bay Area in Northern
California. This year, he returned to Beacon
Light SDA Church and Magee Avenue Baptist
Church where he challenged the congregations
to be participants and not mere observers in
the making of Black history. He was also
able to attend service at the Allen Temple
Baptist Church where Dr. J. Alfred Smith
enjoys a month long transition to a well
deserved retirement. Please keep Pastors
Freddy Brown and Michael Smith in your
thoughts and prayers.
Black History in New York
The last two weeks of February found Dr.
Burton in New York where he presented Black
History programs at Bethany SDA Church in
Long Island and Mt. Vernon SDA Church in Mt.
Vernon. Both churches were stirred with the
sermon "Buffalo Soldiers" and the workshop
"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Pastor LaMar
and Dr. Jules did a great job in making sure
that Dr. Burton was well taken care off.
Don't forget to lift them up the next time
you intercede before the throne of grace.

Death
of Dr. Burton's Father-in-Law
Jose Leopole Shelton was a distinguished man
of Cuban-Jamaican heritage. He entered this
life in 1921 and made his exit on January 7,
2009. He was well loved by his family, and
his death has left a void that is impossible
to fill. On January 18, 2009, final services
were held for him at the Maranatha SDA
Church in Miami, Florida. Dr. Burton
delivered the eulogy titled "The Meaning of
Life" from the book of Ecclesiastes. In this
philosophically therapeutic message, Jose's
survivors were reminded that life is only
futile if God is left out of the picture.
Please remember the family in your prayers.
Oakwood University Religion and Theology
Forum
Days after President Obama settled in his
new role as Chief Executive of the United
States of America, Dr. Burton addressed an
audience at the Religion and Theology Forum
at Oakwood University. Contributing to the
theme of "Kingdom Building," Dr. Burton
delivered the practical message, "Cain's
Question and Obama's Burden." He
demonstrated how Barack's social agenda
provides economic, societal, and moral
answers to Cain's piercing question, "Am I
My Brother's Keeper." Several individuals
responded to the call to be more active in
positive community building. Please pray for
Forum president, Michael Mickens, as he
allows the Spirit of God to drive his
agenda.
Human Sexuality at Oakwood University
On January 29, Dr. Burton presented his
annual sex lecture to the Human Sexuality at
Oakwood University. "Biblical Instructions
on Sex Management" provides insights into
biblical sexual ideals, and offers
strategies for coping with sexual
temptation. Please keep students on all
college campuses in your prayers.
REAL Bible Discussion
Dr. Burton's "REAL Bible Discussion" group
on Facebook has over 600 participants. If

Spiritual Revival at Muswell Hill
Dr. Burton's final meeting for the year was
held at the Muswell Hill SDA Church from
November 29 to December 6. The meetings were
held at London's historic Archway Methodist
Church and focused on church renewal and
personal commitment. Special healing took
place during the inaugural presentation of
"When Hell Breaks Loose." In this
provocative yet soothing message, Job's
experience is analyzed through human,
demonic and Divine perspectives. Please
continue to pray for Pastor Mazlin Holness
and her congregation.
Annual Pastoral and Evangelism Conference
Every December, hundreds of pastors from the
United States, Africa, the Caribbean and
Europe descend on Oakwood University for
evangelistic equipping and renewal. Dr.
Burton assisted at the Bradford Cleveland
Brooks Leadership Center booth, which is the
cover organization for the 2000 Years of
Christianity in Africa study group. Many
attendees secured copies of Dr. Burton's
Blessing of Africa.

Better Living Seminars in Hampstead,
London
For the first three weeks of November, Dr.
Burton addressed audiences four nights a
week at the Hampstead SDA Church in North
London. The timely messages incorporated
prophetic insights into contemporary events
as attendees were encouraged to live out
their Christianity in practical ways.
Baptisms were held on two separate weeks,
and the Kingdom of God was increased! Please
remember the others who will be sealed in
the next baptism, and continue to pray for
Pastor Humphreys and his ministerial team.
Guest Speaker/Teacher at Thornton Heath
New Testament Assembly
Dr. Burton was privileged to fellowship as
worship speaker and Bible study teacher at
the New Testament Assembly in Thornton
Heath, London. After preaching on the
American presidency in light of Revelation 5
for Divine worship on November 2, Dr. Burton
was invited to teach a class on the United
States and prophecy on November 11. He dealt
with the theme, "The American Nightmare"
from Revelation 13. Rev. Calvin Burke and
the pastoral team were excellent
hosts--please lift them up in prayer.

Black History at Plumstead Community
Church
October is Black History month in the United
Kingdom and Dr. Burton was privileged to
conduct several educational seminars in the
land of his birth. The first was a weekend
at the Plumstead Community Church where
people from near and far gathered to learn
about the African presence in the Bible.
Please keep Pastor Essen and the
congregation in your prayers.
Black History Lectures at Newbold College
On October 14-16, Dr. Burton gave several
Black History presentations on the Newbold
College campus. On Tuesday morning, he
addressed the campus community at large with
the presentation "Guess Who's
Coming
to Dinner: Identifying Biblical Africans."
Tuesday evening's scheduled Diversity
Seminar featured Dr. Burton covering the
theme: "Africa's
Contribution to the Protestant Movement:
Papal Hegemony and the Battle for the
Sabbath in Ethiopia." According to the
official
Newbold College press release, "Ukranian
MA student Oleg Kostyuk said ‘Keith has
brought a new perception to my understanding
of African history. I
have been focused on European history and
have heard very little about Christianity
and Sabbath keeping on the African
continent.'"
Wednesday evening's gathering was more
informal as students and staff sat at a
grand table during a Caribbean chat and
chew, and picked Dr. Burton's brain about
issues of race and diversity. On Thursday
evening, Dr. Burton experienced The
Experience, a regular worship setting
where the Newbold community sing, share and
receive a word. He delivered the message
"The Faith Factor" as students were
encouraged to strive for their dreams.
Special thanks are directed to Professors
Gifford Rhamie and Valerie Bernard.

College Press Release.
More at Newbold with Ken Burton
A long anticipated dream was materialized on
October 17 when Dr. Burton and his brother
Ken presented "We've Come This Far by Faith"
to the broader Newbold college community.
Based on the first chapter of Dr. Burton's
book, The Faith Factor, the program
traced the history of African spirituality
from creation to the present day.
Ken
Burton is a renowned choral director,
workshop leader, composer and musician who
is a well established European celebrity.
The report on the
Newbold College web site includes the
following: "Finnish
MA student, Sirpa
Karstenberg said ‘I could feel both the
sadness and joy springing to the surface as
the two men gave their account of slavery
and freedom. It was beautifully captured
through the songs and presentation. Ken
captured the audience's emotions through the
story of Africa's history.'"
Black History Seminar in Tottenham
Pastor Augustus Lawrence and the Holcombe
Road SDA Church laid out the red carpet for
Dr. Burton as he took his Black History
program to the waiting congregation on
October 18. Eager to learn, audience members
asked penetrating questions as they gleaned
new facts about the role of Africa and
Africans in transmitting and preserving the
Christian message.
BBC Bristol and Premier Radio Interviews
Dr. Burton conducted two interviews on
The Blessing of Africa during Black
History Month in the UK. On October 13, he
was featured in a segment of the popular
Premier Radio show, "The Big Picture," with
host Bridgette Tetteh, who wrote that it was
a "great interview." He was back on the air
on October 19 with Trevor Fry, host
of BBC Bristol show, "Sunday Starts."

Sex and the City
The opposing values of Hollywood and the
Bible clashed on September 13 as Dr. Burton
conducted a family life seminar at the
Fayeteville Church in Fayette, Georgia. In
stark terms, he upheld the biblical
standards for sexual purity as he encouraged
families to talk openly about the sexual
sins the devil uses to tear families apart.
Oakwood University Music Department
Consecration Service
On September 16, students and faculty of the
Oakwood University Music Department
assembled for their annual consecration
service. Dr. Burton delivered the
consecratory address titled "I Write the
Songs," in which he addressed he power of
music and the spiritual responsibility of
Christian musicians. Please pray for Dr.
Chambers and the entire music department as
they do their best to bring glory to God
through their artistic gifts.
Purnell Vow Renewal Service
Love is still in the air for our dear
friends Franklin and Kathyanne Purnell who
celebrated a decade of marriage with a
special vow renewal in Chattanooga,
Tennessee. Dr. Burton was privileged to
preside over the ceremony, especially since
an overseas trip caused him to miss the
wedding ten years ago. May the Spirit of
Christ continue to mold these dear saints
and their three lovely children as they work
together to bring glory to His name.

Generation Impact in St. Lucia
Dr. Burton was privileged to be the featured
speaker at "Generation Impact," the first
annual National Youth Summit held the
beautiful island of St. Lucia. On Thursday
and Friday evenings, he spoke at the Labayee
SDA Church where the youth were challenged
with the messages "Iron Man" and "Baby
Mamma." On Saturday, the event moved south
to the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Forte.
Thousands of attendees enthusiastically
received the messages "No Woman no Cry" and
"Get Up Stand Up." Over the course of the
summit, hundreds of youth made public
commitments to stand for Christ and be
agents of change in their communities.
Please continue to pray for youth leader,
Pastor Franklyn Bray, and the ministers and
youth of St. Lucia.
Goodbye Dr. Mulzac
Many of you have been praying for my friend
and brother, Dr. Kenneth Delinor Mulzac. On
July 23, he entered the sleep of death after
a prolonged battle with cancer. Dr. Mulzac
was a dedicated servant of God who was fully
prepared for the moment and now awaits the
call of Christ in the first resurrection. He
was funeralized on August 4 at the Pioneer
Memorial Church on the Andrews University
campus in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Dr.
Burton was pleased for the opportunity to
minister words of healing to Belynda,
Breanda and Karla and members of the family
when he joined Dr. James Doggette in
delivering the eulogy for this very
significant soldier of righteousness. Please
continue to pray for the family.
Dr. Burton on 3ABN
August 1 marked Dr. Burton's forty-fifth
year on planet earth. It was also the
commencement of a two day program that was
televised around the world on 3ABN which has
a potential viewing audience of
half-a-billion people! The program was the
first of the "C. E. Bradford Series" and was
titled Expanding the Prophetic Map: Global
Footprints of Adventism and the Sabbath.
Speakers included Drs. Charles Bradford,
Bertam Melbourne. Emory Tolbert, Joan
Francis, Douglas Morgan, Russel Staples,
Harold Lee and Lois Peters. Dr. Burton's
presentation was titled "The Family of God"
and addressed the common roots of the human
family.

relevant topics like Change We Can Believe
In, Dreams from My Father, Punk'd, The
American Nightmare, and Sex and the City.
Many decisions were made for Christ, and
souls were added to the kingdom of God.

Obama Watch at All Nations
On June 21, Dr. Burton addressed the All
Nations congregation in Huntsville, Alabama,
with the message "Yes He Did" based on
Revelation 5:1-5. He reminded the
congregation that while there may be a
desire to see a person of color in the White
House, we can't forget that the only change
we can really believe in comes from Jesus
Christ. Please continue to pray for Pastors
Holder and Vaughn and the members of All
Nations as they engage in powerful and
transformative ministry.

Is Wright Right? Discussion on WEUP
Talk
with David Person
On May 1, David Person, host of WEUP Talk in
Huntsville, Alabama, invited Dr. Burton to
join in a discussion about the Rev. Dr.
Jeremiah Wright, Senator Barack Obama's
former pastor. The relationship between the
two became further strained after Dr.
Wright's controversial interchange at the
National Press Club. The lively discussion
examined the role of the preacher/prophet
and the politician.
What is Black Liberation Theology?
Discussion on What's the 411
with Sharon Kaye
Media discussion about Rev. Wright continued
on May 4 when Dr. Burton was a guest on
WFSK's What's the 411 with Sharon
Kaye. He was joined by Dr. Lee June of
Michigan State University. Together, the two
were charged with "defining" the Black
Church and discussing issues pertaining to
Black Liberation Theology that the
mainstream media doesn't seem to understand.
Questions and comments from callers helped
to further stimulate discussion. Listen

Diplomat for the International Services
Council
Dr. Burton has officially--and
unexpectedly--been inducted into the
membership of the diplomatic core for the
International Services Council. His name was
presented by Dr. Edith Fraser, director of
faculty development at Oakwood University.
His first official assignment took place on
May 8, and involved playing host for a team
of religious and government leaders from
Nigeria, Cote D'Ivoire, Chad, Cameroon and
South Africa. They were guests of the United
States Department of State who had been
selected to participate in a religious
liberty fact finding mission. Together with
the team, Dr. Burton participated in
meetings at the Hartselle United Methodist
Church, the Hartselle mayor's office, and
the 16th Street Baptist Church in
Birmingham, Alabama.
Disney Here We Come!
On May 10-15, Dr. Burton served as a
chaperone for the Oakwood Adventist
Academy's eighth grade class trip to
Orlando, Florida. While attending to the
delightful group of young men who were under
his care, he managed to participate in
activities at Islands of Adventures, Wet and
Wild, and Disney Quest. Best of all, he had
a chance to bond further with his son
(without cramping his style!).
Congratulations to the Graduates
May 22-25 are days that will go down in
history in the Burton household. These days
marked major graduation ceremonies for our
two children. On the Thursday night, Kaleem
Augustus Burton graduated from the eighth
grade with highest honors and five
recognition cords accessorizing his robe.
After two days of preliminaries, Sheereen
Aiesha Burton marched down the aisle on
Sunday 25th. She too graduated with high
honors and also received the Premier
Academic Scholarship from Oakwood University
(our bank account says praise the Lord!).
The celebration was enhanced by a host of
friends and family including both sets of
grandparents from London and Atlanta, aunts
from San Antonio and Atlanta, and Sheereen's
god-mother from Seattle. Please continue to
pray for my precious children as they
transition to a new phase in their academic
careers.

Radio Interview on Vocal Point
with Leslie Hurst
Leslie Hurst of 90.3 FM WAFG in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida interviewed Dr. Burton
on his groundbreaking book, The Blessing
of Africa. During the March 4 interview,
Leslie Hurst stated that she was "glued to
the book" as she encouraged listeners to get
a copy.
Dedication of Andrae "Marcus" Garvey
On March 8, Dr. Burton and his family
traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to
participate in the dedication of Andrae
"Marcus" Garvey. Proud parents, Hosen and
Koren, were blessed with the presence of
family members from around the country and
overseas. Young Andrae is blessed with the
honor of being a relative of the late Black
liberationist, Marcus Mosiah Garvey. In the
dedicatory prayer, Dr. Burton reminded the
parents that Andrae has been destined for
greatness--not just because of his link to
Marcus Garvey, but because he is a child of
the Eternal Messiah.
Berean is Revived
Each night from April 4-19 (with the
exception of Thursday), Dr. Burton presented
sermons of revival to the members and
friends of the Berean SDA Church in
Brooklyn, New York, where Bruce Daughma is
senior pastor. The Spirit worked in
mysterious ways as Dr. Burton was impressed
to deliver messages that spoke directly to
the needs of the people. Based primarily on
the "Ordinary People" series, the topics
included fresh takes on Isaac (Muddled
Model), Joseph (Vengeful Victor), and Paul
(Testy Teacher). Dr. Burton has been asked
to follow up the revival with a full scale
evangelistic meeting in 2009. He is grateful
for the wonderful care and attention that
was showered on him by his hosts, Elder and
Mrs. Winston Samuel.
Mission Sunday at Progressive Union
Missionary Baptist Church
On April 26, Dr. Burton was pleased to
accept the invitation from Dr. Wayne
Snodgrass to address his congregation during
the Mission Sunday worship service. The
Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church
recently moved into its new facilities, and
is committed to making a difference in
Huntsville, Alabama. As foreign missionaries
were celebrated, Dr. Burton reminded the
congregation that every member of the body
of Christ has been called to be a witness
wherever he or she may be. Please continue
to pray for the ministry of Progressive
Union.
Blessing of Africa in Second Printing
InterVarsity Press recently informed Dr.
Burton that The Blessing of Africa is
currently in its second printing. Make sure
to get your copy, and pass on the news to

Youth Revival in the Bronx
On April 14-21, Dr. Burton ministered to the
youth at the North Bronx Seventh-day
Adventist Church in New York. Titled
"Wrestling Match," the meetings started on
the morning of the 14th where a packed
congregation listened to the message, "The
Tomb in the Womb." This was followed in the
evening with the heart searching sermon, "A
Deal for a Meal."
A dreaded
"nor'easter" storm flooded many areas of New
York on Sunday, and a faithful handful
showed up in the evening to listen to
"Scenes from the Genes." The numbers picked
up throughout the week as Dr. Burton
delivered "Messing with the Blessing," "Why
Bother with Mother," "A Son on the Run," and
"The Sunrise Surprise."
The members were
prepared to transition into their brand new
"state of the art" building that Sabbath,
and Dr. Burton was ready to step aside for
Senior Pastor, Dr. Russell. However,
building delays meant that he was called
upon to speak again with the encouraging
sermon "No Woman no Cry." The series ended
in the evening with the message, "A Fight in
the Night."
North Bronx Youth
Pastor, Lincoln Smith, recently informed Dr.
Burton that of the twenty people who made a
decision to follow Christ during the week,
sixteen were baptized on May 5, when the
members finally moved into their new
edifice. Please remember these new
Christians in your prayers.
Family Life Seminar at Stone Mountain
Dr. Burton was pleased to have his son
Kaleem accompany him to Stone Mountain,
Georgia on April 27-29 where he conducted a
family life seminar at the Stone Mountain
Seventh-day Adventist Church. The
interactive series, "Know Thyself,"
challenged participants to take an
introspective look at themselves and the
persons with whom they are in relationship.
Strategies for successful relationships were
shared, and many people testified about how
the seminars benefited them.
The series ended on
Sunday morning with a men's only session
that analyzed "Four Signs of a Real Man."
Due to a family emergency, Senior Pastor,
Dr. Neil Reid, was out of the country during
the meetings. Please pray that the Lord will
continue to sustain him and his family.

Marriage Seminar. About fifteen years
ago while pastoring in Evanston, Illinois,
Dr. Burton and his wife Cynthia founded
"What God has Joined," a marriage ministry
that has been a blessing to many. They were
delighted to have the opportunity to conduct
the seminar "Opposites Attract" for the
Fayetville Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Georgia on March 3.
The couples in
attendance were provided innovative tools
that will definitely enhance their
marriages. Thanks to the Family Life
department for their insight and invitation.
Tomb of Jesus Interview on WEUP. On
March 15, Dr. Burton joined host David
Person on WEUP AM to discuss the alleged
discovery of the tomb of Jesus' family. The
allegations were quickly debunked as the
conversation drifted to previous attempts to
sensationalize faith, such as the DaVinci
Code and the Gospel of Judas.
The Revolution goes to Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Seventh-day Adventist Church
hosted the Revolution in a one week revival
format. Pastor Kevin Rhamie has been
teaching his church to lean on the Holy
Spirit, and the presence of the Lord was
definitely evident throughout the week.
The meeting
culminated with the baptism of one precious
soul who had entered the church for the
first time on the day the meetings started.
Please keep him in your prayers, as well as
the scores of others who responded to the
various appeals throughout the week.

Wedding in Miami. The Burton family
took the long trek to Miami on the weekend
of February 18, where Dr. Burton presided

groom complemented each other wonderfully,
and the guests had a great time.
Back to the Bay. Black History month
found Dr. Burton back in the Bay area where
he promoted his books and ministered at
three churches. After a brief address to
Pastor Jonathan Henderson's thriving
congregation, Dr. Burton rushed to be with
Pastor Edwin Frederick Brown and the Beacon
Light Seventh-day Adventist family where he
delivered "No Woman No Cry" to the youth in
the morning, and presented the seminar "The
Nation of Islam and the Kingdom of God" in
the afternoon. The evening was spent with
weekend host, Pastor Dexter Thomas, along
with Pastor Henderson and the youth from
their church.
On Sunday, Dr.
Burton was privileged to present the main
message at the McGee Avenue Baptist Church.
After a creative and informative Black
History program from local school youth, Dr.
Burton delivered a Black History version of
"Reprogram the Genogram." Chains were
broken, and many responded to the call for
deliverance in Christ. Dr. Burton especially
appreciates the warm reception extended to
him from the pastor, Reverend Michael Smith,
a man of God who exudes love.

Ordinary People in the Bronx. Dr.
Burton's busy year concluded with a revival
at the Rose of Sharon SDA Church in Bronx,
New York. As they prepared to face the new

sermons focusing on the humanness of our
Bible heroes, and the grace of our loving
God. Over the course of the week, Dr. Burton
discussed the Faithful Failure, Abused
Abuser, Cowardly Commander, Selfish Savior,
Waffling Witness, and Patient Patsy. He also
conducted a workshop on the spiritual
disciplines that will hopefully help the
saints develop meaningful spiritual lives in
2007.

Jewel of the Nile: Sheereen's Sweet
Sixteen. On the evening of Saturday
November 4, Dr. Burton was privileged escort
his daughter as she celebrated her passage
into womanhood. The spectacular evening was
enhanced by family and friends, some of whom
traveled hundreds of miles to celebrate the
"Jewel of the Nile." Below is the text of
the prepared speech a proud father presented
to his only daughter that evening:
Jewel of
the Nile
With a
length of over 4,000 miles, the Nile is
twinned with the Amazon as one of the two
longest rivers on earth. Running obstinately
from south to north, and emptying into the
Mediterranean Sea at the northernmost border
of the modern African continent, the
Egyptian Nile is actually a combination of
two powerful tributaries known as the White
Nile and Blue Nile.
Until recently, it was believed that the
White Nile had it’s source in Lake Victoria.
However, some theorize that the waters that
form this branch actually spring from the
Great Lakes region of Central Africa,
located in modern Rwanda. On its way to
nourish the life-giving torrent that has cut
an oasis highway through the scorching
Egyptian desert, the White Nile passes
through Tanzania, rests briefly in Lake
Victoria, and then takes the grueling trip
through Uganda and southern Sudan, before
meeting its Blue partner in Khartoum.
The Blue Nile’s path is not as long, but its
journey is just as adventurous. Originating
in Lake Tana in the Ethiopian highlands,
this tributary is fueled by annual summer
rains that transform arid areas into
luscious landscapes. Moist mountains become
wondrous waterfalls and voiceless valleys
become restless rivers. At the end of it’s
850 mile trek, Blue meets White at Khartoum
and with invigorated determination the two
unite to traverse the six challenging
cataracts before mingling with the salt of
it’s Mediterranean destiny.
The theme for the evening is "Jewel of the
Nile." The Jewel under the microscope is
none other than Sheereen Aiésha Burton. As
we celebrate with her, let’s not forget that
jewels are the end result of a miraculous
process. Indeed, thousands of years after
the writer of Genesis alludes to the Nile in
his discussion on the location of Eden, this
river still lends us some lucid lessons.
As it makes its journey, the Nile must
learn to manoeuver the many natural
barriers that challenge its progress.
The path of life is filled with
challenges. You "will" face obstacles,
but never forget that faith is stronger
than any fortress.
On the way to its destination, the Nile
never ceases to nourish the land. Even
as you move towards your eternal
destiny, remember that God has called
you to selfless giving, and always leave
a trail of encouragement and hope
wherever you go.
Most people associate the Nile with
famous Pharaohs and their overwhelming
opulence. However if it were not for the
tributaries that originated in lesser
known regions of the African continent,
there would be no Nile. Your
contributions to life may be
unrecognized by humans, but be assured
that they are recognized by God.
As we lubricate our lobes with these
lessons, lets prepare ourselves to pay
tribute to tonight’s "Jewel of the Nile"–Sheereen
Aiésha Burton.
Adventist Society for Religious Studies.
Dr. Burton attended the Adventist Society
for Religious Studies meeting in Washington,
DC where he participated in a panel
discussion on how a person read's Paul from
his/her social location. Dr. Burton's
presentation, "Not So Hard to Understand,"
detailing his journey with reading Paul,
will appear with others in a future issue of
"Spectrum" magazine.
A Romans Celebration. Dr. Burton had
the privilege of celebrating the official
introduction of the most comprehensive
Romans commentary in the world at the annual
Society of Biblical Literature meeting at
Washington, DC. The work reflects a
quarter-century of solid research by Dr.
Robert Jewett of the University of
Heidelberg (formerly professor at Garrett
Evangelical Theological
Seminary/Northwestern University). Dr.
Burton was one of several research
assistants who contributed to this tome, and
for several years collated over 1,000 pages
of bibliography and assisted in the editing
of the textual critical notations.

The Revolution Comes to Croydon. On
October 8, 2006, Dr. Burton rallied the
troops with the message, "Will America Win
the War on Terror," as the three week "Final
Revolution" kicked of at the Croydon SDA
Church. This was a special event for Dr.
Burton, for Croydon is the church that
nurtured him for the first two decades of
his life on this earth. Boosted by an able
staff of pastors, elders, prayer warriors,
media technicians, ushers, et al, the
meetings amounted to a tremendous success,
and many decisions were made for Christ. To
God be the glory, great things he has done!
James Bond and Everton McIntosh. The
usually calm, cool, and collected Dr.
Everton McIntosh was slightly shaken, but
still not stirred, when he walked into a
surprise party put on by his wife, Denise,
in celebration of his arriving at the golden
age of fifty. Dr. Burton was asked to serve
as the Master of Ceremonies for the James
Bond themed evening. With live
entertainment, a silent viewing of "Dr. No,"
sumptuous delicacies and alcohol free
martinis, the evening is one that will be
remembered for years to come.
Life Lessons from the Crocodile Hunter.
In his September 5 "Perspectives" commentary
and podcast, Dr. Burton paid tribute to the
life and work of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve
Irwin, who was tragically killed by a sting
ray while filming in his native Australia.

Marlon and Valerie. Dr. Burton was
one of four ministers that officiated over
the wedding of his cousin, Pastor Marlon
Reid and his beautiful new wife, Valerie
Wells. Held at the historic Shiloh
Seventh-day Adventist Church on Chicago's
South Side, the ceremony was filled with
pomp and splendor with a generous dose of
elegance. In the wedding homily, Dr. Burton
used the analogy of a surgery to illustrate
how Marlon and Valerie have been
mysteriously transformed into one flesh. We
wish them a lifetime of happiness.
Back Home to Evanston. Dr. Burton had
the privilege of addressing the congregation
with which he commenced his ministry on
August 19. The First Seventh-day Adventist
Church in Evanston, Illinois will always
have a very special place in Dr. Burton's
heart. The message titled "The Faith
Factor," was taken from Matthew 17, and
focused on the power of faith.
Oakwood Adventist Academy. On August
11, Dr. Burton had the privilege of
addressing the K-12 students of the Oakwood
Adventist Academy for the first formal
assembly of the school year. He spoke on the
theme "Voices" from 1 Samuel 3:1-8. Drawing
lessons from the life of Samuel, he
challenged the students to ignore the voices
of "ghosts" and "goads", and tune in to the
voice of "God." Please remember these
students in your prayers as they are
fortified with a Christian education.

Understanding Hezbollah. On July 27,
Dr. Burton was a featured guest on WEUP Talk
with host, David Person, where he discussed
the roots of the current conflict in the
Middle East. Dr. Burton proposed that the
current crisis is a symbol of the
continually burning embers from the medieval
Crusades that have been further inflamed by
the Anglo-influenced decision to create a
European Jewish state in the center of
traditionally Arabic lands. You may listen
to commentaries reflecting Dr. Burton's view
on the
Life Heritage Radio Network.
Revolution Comes to Bronx. Still
fired up by the London Revolution, Dr.
Burton took his revolutionary messages to
Bronx, NY, where he launched assaults
against the enemy's kingdom from June 17 to
July 1. With the help of an experienced team
led by Pastors Bancroft Daughma and Nylon
Samuels, the message of the Revolution was
broadcast throughout North Bronx. After two
weeks of decision making messages, a number
of souls responded to the voice of the Holy
Spirit and were inducted into the kingdom
through baptism.
A Significant Milestone. On the
evening of July 22, Dr. Burton had the
privilege of presiding over the vow renewal
ceremony for Alan and Helen Fischle. As he
congratulated the glamorous couple for
staying true to their covenant for ten
years, Dr. Burton reminded them that
marriage is like a three-legged marathon
that can only be completed if each couple is
determined to work together. The evening of
elegance served as a wonderful tribute to a
wonderful couple.

Revolution Returns to London. For
three glorious weeks from May 20-June 10,
Dr. Burton teamed up with Pastor Horace
Taffe and the evangelistic team at the
Fulham SDA Church in South-west London and
took the revolution to the streets. Each
night, Dr. Burton unveiled the Word of God
with practical and prophetic sermons.
Sensitive to the publicity over the
controversial movie, The DaVinci Code,
Dr. Burton presented a two part message
Decoding the DaVinci Code in which he
analyzed claims the book's author makes
about the Bible and Church history. He also
introduced another brand new gospel message
titled Broke Heart Mountain. The
series ended with a grand baptism as a
number of new recruits enrolled in God's
revolutionary army.

International Youth Convention. After
traveling for forty-eight hours and making
stops in London and Dubai, Dr. Burton
finally arrived at the Nairobi Airport on
Tuesday, May 9. He was met by two professors
from the University of Arusha in Tanzania,
and following a sumptuous traditional meal
at a quaint roadside restaurant, slept
though most of the five hour journey to Usa
River, Tanzania.
The convention
commenced on Wednesday May 10, and continued
through Sunday May 14. The students of the
university and weekend guests were
challenged with themes that encouraged them
to make a positive difference in society.
They were especially thrilled by the Bob
Marley inspired sermons, “Buffalo Soldiers”
"War," and “No Woman No Cry.”
Dr. Burton also
took the opportunity to remind them of the
significant African role in biblical history
and the formation of Christianity. There was
great enthusiasm when Dr. Burton analyzed
and affirmed the evidence that places the
Garden of Eden in the region of Lake
Victoria.
Dr. Burton refused
to leave until he saw Mount Kilimanjaro
which was covered in clouds for most of his
stay. God granted his desire on the final
night as he dined in a safari restaurant
with a clear view of the snow capped wonder.

Tanzania! On Sunday, May 14, Dr. Burton
received a special invitation to attend the
first in a series of meetings to commemorate
the 100th anniversary of John Wayne’s birth.
John Wayne won the heart of Tanzanians when
he shot the 1952 movie Hatari in Arusha.
Michael Ratzer, the official United States
Ambassador to Tanzania, could not make it
due to a scheduled trip to the United
States.
Imagine Dr.
Burton’s surprise when he was asked to read
the prepared message from Ambassador Ratzer!
To ensure that people were aware of his true
citizenship, he prefaced his remarks with:
“My normal assignment is an ambassador of
the king of kings, but today I am standing
in for the representative of the President
of the United States....”
